WattEV, a Los Angeles-headquartered start-up company, is working to solve the challenge of accelerating the transition from highly polluting diesel freight trucks to zero-emission electric trucks in an equitable fashion.
WattEV developed their Electric Trucking-as-a-Service (TaaS) model in 2020 to expand zero-emission freight movement in a more equitable manner to smaller, local entrepreneurs in the trucking community. This unique approach provides a low-risk and low-cost solution for small fleets to deploy zero-emission trucks in California by providing a truly bundled service that makes it easy for fleets to access a new zero-emission truck without needing to pay high upfront costs for the vehicle and infrastructure, or worry about maintenance, insurance, or unknown resale values.
WattEV’s unique business model presents numerous community benefits including local job creation and revenue generation through the hiring of drivers and local contractors for construction and site maintenance; immediate reduction in greenhouse gases, ozone, diesel emissions, PM2.5, and other harmful pollutants; and ancillary environmental benefits related to water, stormwater and soil that can be impacted from criteria pollution emissions.
